Turkey Rock Hunt 2021 & 2022
In 2021 and 2022, the Stevan Rodgers Memorial organization introduced a heartwarming tradition to honor the memory of Stevan Rodgers, a man known for his kindness and generous spirit. Inspired by "Hassell's Hunt," a local family scavenger hunt, we created our own version to bring joy and support to families during the Thanksgiving season.
The Tradition of the Turkey Rocks
Stevan loved participating in "Hassell's Hunt," where families decipher riddles to find a hidden ingot. Stevan and his family would embark on late-night hunts, delighting in the challenge and the sense of community it fostered. In this spirit, we decided to create a similar event with a meaningful twist.
Each year, as Thanksgiving approached, we hid ten rocks painted with turkeys in parks around the community. These "Turkey Rocks" became symbols of hope and generosity. Each rock could be traded in for $100, intended to help families enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.
The Thrill of the Hunt
To add an element of fun and excitement, we crafted riddles as hints for the location of each Turkey Rock. These riddles were designed to engage families and individuals, encouraging them to work together, explore the parks, and experience the joy of discovery.
Participants eagerly awaited the release of the riddles, and the hunt became a beloved event in our community. The thrill of the chase, the joy of finding a Turkey Rock, and the knowledge that the prize would help make Thanksgiving special for someone in need, brought people together in a beautiful way.
Continuing Stevan's Legacy
Stevan Rodgers was a beacon of kindness and generosity. His love for family, community, and the thrill of a good riddle inspired this tradition. By hiding Turkey Rocks, we not only keep his memory alive but also embody his spirit of giving and community support.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in the Turkey Rock Hunt. Your enthusiasm, teamwork, and generosity have made a significant impact, helping us honor Stevan's legacy in the most fitting way.
Looking Forward
As we look ahead, we remain committed to continuing this tradition and finding new ways to honor Stevan's memory. We hope the Turkey Rock Hunt brings as much joy and support to our community as it has in the past two years.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating the life and spirit of Stevan Rodgers. Together, we can continue to make a difference, one Turkey Rock at a time.
